Here I added a new layer on top of the paper textures and painted in some color for the sky in the background. I'm using the "New Simple Water" Digital Watercolor brush. This is the brush I'll be using for most of the painting. I paint pretty loosely over the whole image, because I can then go back in and erase out anything that goes over the lines (one of the benefits of working digitally). This allows me to paint with a larger brush so the colors bleed nicely into one another. To get this same effect traditionally I would need to take a completely different approach because you can't erase real watercolor, but I won't get into that now.
